Vazhapoo is the Banana Blossoms (the flower in the plantain tree). This flower can be used to make many tasty dishes. One of them is the Vazhapoo cutlet – a very tasty delicious snack item. You would find an entirely different cutlet you have ever made. And it can be stored in fridge for 2 to 3 days, microwave whenever you want and enjoy
Crumbled Vazhapoo (Banana Blossom) – 2 cups
Large Boiled Potatoes – 1(crumbled)
Oil – 1 tbsp
Fennel Seeds – 1 TSP
Large Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Green Chillies – 2 (finely chopped)
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Finely chopped Mint Leaves (Pudhina) – 2 tbsp
Cumin Seed Powder – ½ tsp
Chilli Powder- ½ tsp
Garam Masala –1 tsp
Salt – to suit taste
Lemon Juice – 1 tsp
Finely chopped Cilantro – 2 tbsp
Corn Flour – 2 tbsp
Bread Crumbs – to coat the cutlet
Oil – for shallow frying
Apply Oil in the palm to avoid stain while handling the Vazhapoo. Separate the Florets. Chop the florets into small pieces. Wash and rinse them. Soak in water to avoid discoloration. Keep aside soaked in water till you are ready to start cooking.
Drain the water. Squeeze out the water. Blend it in pulse mode to a coarse structure.
Heat Oil in a pan. Add Fennel Seeds. Wait few seconds. Now, add the chopped Onion, Green Chillies. Stir them for a minute. Add the Ginger Garlic paste, Pudhina and crushed Vazhapoo. Cook in low medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes. Add Cumin Seed Powder, Chilli Powder, Garam Masala and Salt. Add crumbled Potato, Lemon Juice and Cilantro. Mix well. Cook till it become a whole mass.
Allow it to cool.
Take a small quantity of the mass, flatten it to a thick round or a shape as desired cutlet.
Make a medium thick slurry of the Corn Flour with required quantity of water.
Dip the cutlet made as above in the slurry Now, coat it with the bread crumbs all over.
Heat Oil in a broad pan for shallow frying. Spread the coated cutlets on the pan and fry them golden on all sides by flipping gently.
Transfer to a plate spread with tissue paper so that excess Oil can be sucked away by the tissue paper.
Serve the Cutlets warm with Tomato Sauce. Enjoy the great tasting Cutlets.
