Tomato (medium size) -5
Oil- 2 tsp
Mustard/Rai- 1/2 tsp
Split Black Gram (Urad Dal) – 1tsp
Red Chilies- 5
Cilantro Leaves (Dhania) –finely chopped – ½ cup
Asafoetida- 2 pinch
Salt – to taste
Wash and cut the Tomatoes into 8 pieces.
Heat Oil, add mustard and allow to splutter. Add Black Gram and allow it to become pink.
Add Asafoetida, Tomatoes. Cook till It becomes soft.
Add Cilantro Leaves, mix well and cook for 2 more minutes.
Remove from the stove and allow it to cool.
Add salt. Grind it together. (Do not make a very fine paste).
This chutney goes very well with Idlis, Dosas, and Roti etc.
Tips: Adjust the quantity of Red Chilies to suit taste. Tamarind can be added to get a tangy taste if required.
