Thuvaiyal (Chutney) is usually served as a side dish for Idli, Dosa etc. There are many variations in making Thuvaiyal. And you will be surprised that there are Chutneys that are served and goes very well with steamed Rice as well as Fried Rice etc. One such Chutney is Pottu Kadalai Thuvaiyal. It is a very simple and easy dish to make
Pottu Kadalai (Roasted Bengal Gram) – ½ cup
Garlic Pods – 2
Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp
Curry Leaves – from 1 twig
Green Chillies – 1 or 2
Salt to taste
Take all the ingredients in a small mixer jar.
Blend them for a minute without adding any water first.
Add 1 or 2 tbsp of water and blend it again. If the consistency is too thick, sprinkle some water and grind it into a thick paste.
Serve with Sambar Rice, Curd Rice, Rasam Rice etc.
Take care while adding water. It needs very, very little water.
This Thuvaiyal can be added to rice with a dash of Ghee and served even to small children. Reduce the quantity of Green Chilli if to be served to children.
