Pomegranate is a very tasty fruit and it has a lot of health benefits. We recently bought a lot of them on our way back home from a long road trip. And I wanted to try making a savory dish with this tasty fruit. What followed was this Poriyal. You can have this dish just by itself with a glass of cool drink. You can also serve it with Sambar Rice etc.
Fresh Pomegranate Pearls – 1 ½ cup
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Green Chillies (less spicy) – 1 to 2
Onion (large) – 1 (finely chopped)
Grated Coconut – ¼ cup
Salt to taste
Finely chopped Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard Seeds and Cumin Seeds. When they splutter, add the finely chopped Onions and the Green Chillies. Stir fry for a minute in medium flame till the Onion become translucent.
Add the Pomegranate Pearls. Add Grated Coconut, Salt and the chopped Coriander Leaves.
Stir fry another minute in medium flame.
Switch off the flame and allow it to come to room temperature and then serve.
Use Green Chillies with less spiciness. The dish should not become spicy at all.
