Gujarati cuisine is one of the very few cuisines in India known for its simple yet clean flavors. The dishes are not overpowered by the use of various spices. And we are going to see such recipe using Cabbage and Peas. It is a very simple dish and does not use too many spices. We know that Cabbage is rich in fiber content, Vitamin K and C. Peas are also rich in Fiber content. So, it would be a healthy food also. Let us see how this dish is made.
Cabbage (Shredded or finely chopped) – 3 cups
Fresh Green Peas – 1 cup
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard Seed – ½ tsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp
Green Chillies – 3 (slitted)
Turmeric Powder – 1/8 tsp
Coriander seeds Powder – ½ tsp
Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add the Mustard Seeds and Cumin Seeds and allow them to crackle. Add Asafoetida, Green Chillies and Turmeric Powder. Stir for few seconds. Add the chopped Cabbage and the Fresh Peas.
Cook for 3 to 4 minutes covered with a lid in low medium flame stirring at intervals. Add Red Chilli Powder and Coriander Seed Powder. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. We can cook the Cabbage to remain crunchy or allow it to become soft also as per one’s preference. Add Cilantro and mix well. The healthy Patta Gobi Nu Shaak is ready.
Serve with Roti, Chapatti etc. It goes as a good side dish with Sambar Rice and Dal Rice also.
