Mango Squash – a Summer Drink

It is summer and Mango Season is here.  We get busy with preparing Mango pickles and all other recipe which can be prepared with Mango – raw and ripe. When you go to the fruit market, you see Mangoes and only Mangoes. And this is the season when we expect a very refreshing drink in between. And Mango comes very handy to prepare a refreshing drink. And one such drink is the Mango Squash. Instead of buying it from the shop with all kind of preservatives and artificial colors and taste enhancers, let us make it at home – a tasty hygienic healthy refreshing drink. Let us see how to go about making this at home

Ingredients :

Mango Pulp – 1 cup (from sweet and juicy variety of Mangoes like

                                     Alphonso etc)

Sugar – 1 cup

Water – ½ cup

Lemon Juice – 2 tbsp

Method:

To make Mango Puree (Pulp), take peeled and chopped ripe Mango pieces in a mixer jar. Blend them to a fine puree.

Take Sugar and water in a pan. Boil till the Sugar dissolves completely. Continue cooking till the sugar syrup attains a one string consistency.

Add the Mango pulp. Mix well. Stir continuously. When it comes to a boiling point, switch off the flame. Add the Lemon juice and mix well. Allow the mixture to cool completely. The mixture would be thick.

Strain the mixture. I did not strain since the Mango variety which I selected did not have any fiber. If the Mango used was a fibrous variety, it is required to strain the mixture.  Even the strained mixture would be thick.

Our home made Mango squash is ready. Store it in a sterilized glass bottle. We can store this squash in a refrigerator up to 15 to 20 days.

When you want to prepare the drink, take 3 to 4 tbsp of this thick squash in a serving glass depending on the size of the glass. Fill the glass with chilled water. You can also add Ice Cubes, if you prefer. The tasty refreshing healthy homemade drink is ready. Enjoy in this summer.

Note:

Always use clean dry bottle for storing.
