Oats Idli is an instant Idli which can be made in minutes. It is an instant recipe without need for soaking, grinding, fermenting etc. Oats is rich in fiber, Vitamins, Protein, Minerals etc and Oats Idli is a healthy breakfast recipe.
Plain Oats – ½ cup
Whole Wheat Rawa (Fine) – ¼ cup
Yogurt (Dahi) – ¼ cup
Turmeric (Haldi) Powder – ½ pinch
Fruit Salt – ½ tsp
Water as required
Salt to taste
Oil – 1tsp
Mustard (Rai) – ½ tsp
Split Black Gram (Urad Dal) – ½ cup
Bengal Gram (Chenna Dal) – ½ tsp
Green Chilli – ½ finely chopped
Curry Leaf – 1 strand (Finely chopped)
Ginger Grated – ½ tsp
Grated Carrot – 2 tbsp
Cilantro (Dania) – 1 tbsp (chopped)
Dry roast the oats and wheat Rawa separately in medium flame for a couple of minutes each and keep them separately.
Crush the Oats slightly when it becomes cool transfer to a bowl.
Add the roasted Wheat Rawa to it. Add Salt, Yogurt, and Turmeric Powder. Mix it by adding water little by little. The batter should not become too thin or too thick. It should attain the texture of Idli batter. Allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Heat Oil in a pan and add Mustard. When it splutters, add Bengal Gram and Black Gram. When the Bengal Gram turns a little pink, add Green Chilli, curry leaves and Ginger.
Switch off the flame and add Carrot and Cilantro.
Stir well and transfer to the batter. Mix well. If the batter is too thick, add a little water and mix well.
Heat water in an Idli steamer or pressure cooker or electric cooker.
Grease the Idli molds with oil or ghee. Add Fruit Salt to the batter and start stirring quickly so that the fruit salt mixes evenly with the batter.
Pour the batter in the greased Idli Molds. (Use all the batter in one steaming). Place the molds in the steamer. Cover and steam for 10 to 12 minutes.
Open the cover. Allow the steamed Idlis to stand in the mold for at least 5 minutes and then remove them with a flat spoon dipped in hot water.
Cashews can be added to the batter to enhance the taste. Lemon Juice can be used in place of Curd.
