Idli Upma is a breakfast dish. This dish is generally prepared with left over Idlis. It can be prepared from Fresh Idlis after refrigerating the fresh Idlis for 30 minutes. You can add vegetables to it to make many variations in its preparation. Below is the simple version of this recipe with no frills added J
Fresh or Left Over Idlis – 6
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
Black Gram – ½ tsp
Grated Ginger – 1 tsp
Onion (Big) – 1 (finely chopped)
Green Chilli – 2 (chopped)
Curry Leaves: 1 twig
Sambar Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Finely chopped Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
Crumble the Idlis and keep aside.
Heat the Oil in pan and add Mustard Seed. Allow it to crackle.
Add Black Gram and stir for a few seconds.
Add Onion, Green Chillies, Ginger and Curry Leaves. Stir fry till the Onion becomes translucent.
Add the crumbled Idlis, Sambar Powder and Coriander Leaves, very little Salt.
Mix them well and stir for two minutes.
Transfer to a serving bowl.
Serve hot. You can serve with Coconut Chutney also.
Note: You can add a pinch of Sugar and ½ tsp of lemon juice for a variation.
