I had posted earlier few recipes with Guava as the main ingredient – Guava Curry, Guava Jam, Guava Pickle etc. The recipe which follows is another preparation with Guava. It is a good side dish with Rice, Roti etc. This sweet and spicy dish can be made with minimum available ingredients at home. I had prepared this dish twice earlier. And I prepared it now for this blog. If you like Guava, you must try this delicious curry
Ripe Guava (medium sized) – 2
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – ¾ tsp
Cumin Seeds – ¾ tsp
Green Chillies – 2 (broken)
Curry Leaves – 1 pinch
Turmeric Powder – 1 pinch
Red Chilli Powder – ¾ tsp
Coriander Seed Powder – 1 ½ tbsp
Salt to taste
Tomatoes (medium sized) – 2 (cut into thick slices)
Jaggery – 1 tbsp
Chopped Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp
Select the Guava which are medium ripe. If it is stiff to cut, peel the skin and dispose the skins. If it is of soft variety, cut them without removing the skin. Cut the Guava into medium thick slices.
Heat the Oil in a pan. Add Mustard and Cumin Seeds. When they start crackling, add the Green Chillies and the curry leaves. Stir for 30 to 40 seconds.
Add the Chilli Powder, Turmeric Powder and Salt. Stir them.
Add the Guava and Tomato slices. Mix well.
Add ½ cup of water and allow it to boil. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer in medium flame for 6 to 8 minutes.
Add the Jaggery and cilantro.
Simmer for another couple of minutes.
Transfer to a serving bowl.
