Custard Apple and Vermicelli Payasam

Custard Apple and Vermicelli Payasam – Custard Apple, also called as Sitaphal, is a very healthy, tasty and refreshing Fruit – available in abundance during August- October season. In addition to enjoying the fruit, we can also make very delicious dishes with the pulp of this fruit. We had posted a video “How to remove seeds from Custard Apple” in our youtube channel “Tastydelightz Food”. Watch that video which would give you the easy way of extracting the pulp of these delicious fruit. Custard Apple has many health benefits and it is a mood elevator. So, try making the tasty delicious dishes in this season using the Custard Apple pulp. We will see how to make a delicious Custard Apple Vermicelli Payasam with the pulp. It is a South Indian Kheer (Dessert) with few variations. This Payasam with the fruit flavor is a yummy Payasam which you can make in this season for a get together. Let us see how.

Ingredients:

Custard Apple Pulp – 1/2 cup (Pulp from 2 big deseeded Custard Apple)

Vermicelli – ½ cup

Ghee – 1 tbsp

Cashews – 15 (broken)

Milk – 750 ml

Sugar – ½ cup approx

Method:

Crush the Custard Apple Pulp coarsely and keep aside.

Heat the Ghee in a thick bottomed pan. Roast the Cashew Nuts golden in it in low flame. Transfer to a small plate and keep aside.

Roast the Vermicelli in the same pan in the left out Ghee.  Roast till it turns golden brown in color stirring very frequently. (Take care not to burn it). Transfer to another plate or vessel and keep aside.

Add Milk and bring it to full boil in the same pan. Simmer for 5 to 6 minutes in medium flame. Add the roasted Vermicelli and allow it to boil. Keep stirring so that it does not get burnt at the bottom of the vessel. When the Vermicelli is cooked well, add the Sugar and roasted Cashew Nuts. Stir cook in low flame. The Sugar will melt and mix with the Vermicelli. The whole mixture will thicken little further. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool. Now, add the Custard Apple Pulp and mix well. The tasty delicious Custard Apple Vermicelli Payasam is ready. Transfer to serving dishes.

Garnish with Custard Apple Pulp, fried Cashew Nuts etc. You can serve it as it is or you can chill it in the refrigerator for about ½ hour to one hour and serve.

Notes:

  1. Do not overcook Vermicelli.
  2. Adjust quantity of Sugar to suit your taste.
